Either way you will have fun at Halloween. And adults tend to have a different way of having fun than the kids. There are always parties for adults, as well as work functions that can occur just for Halloween.

Imagine a pirate without a sword or a fake parrot on his or her shoulder. A Cinderella, Tinkerbell, or a Mermaid is not going to be as much fun without a tiara, wand, and a set of wings to go along with the dress.
A ghost costume would have much more interesting when you add a chain to the costume. A punk rocker can not be convincing without the mohawk, jewelry, and the really interesting shoes.

If the costumes you buy come with Halloween costume accessories then you may not have to worry about finding more. Of course, you can always use something else if you want to be unique in creating your own version of the costume.
Perhaps the hat that comes with the costume may not fit you very well even though it may look good on the picture. Or the sword that comes with the costume is too long and you don’t want to cause any accidents.
You can either modify the existing one, or go out and find a new one that will fit or meet your requirement. It would take much of the fun away if you are constantly worried about adjusting or holding on to any of your accessories for your Halloween costume.

If you decided to make your own costume, you are definitely going to have to find your own Halloween costume accessories to go with what you have envisioned. Once you know what you want to make, or after your child has made a request, you can probably figure out what accessories you are going to need for that costume.
If you are not totally sure, look for that similar costume somewhere else to see what others include. This way you should be able to come up with all the right pieces.
Very often you will find that some Halloween costume accessories that you buy can be used for other ideas or even other events. Certain things like hair piece, scarf, gloves, or shoes can be saved for when your children want to play dress up.
Whatever the case, if you are going to save them for another time, make sure to take a little time to clean things up. You can hand wash the costume (machine-washing is usually not recommended) if it is made with fabric, and then you can wash any accessories you have used with a mild detergent and then let air dry. Once you have done that, you can put them away for later use.
